First off, thank you for taking the time to read this. I am really excited about this project. For the last few years, I’ve been casually thinking about a platform where people could tell their stories in a way to inspire others. Given how much time I have had during the pandemic, it was the perfect time to finally come to fruition.

The purpose of this post is to introduce you to the idea of One Day at a Time. If this is something you feel like could be beneficial to you or someone else please subscribe and share, if not I encourage you to find something that is beneficial to you.

Continue reading down below to get to know the what, the why, the inspiration, and future vision for the One Day at a Time Project.

What is ODaaT?

The name, ODaaT—One Day at a Time—came from an answer I gave many times responding to the question, “How are you doing?”

Typically, I would cynically respond, “I’m doing alright, just taking things one day at a time.”

Over the last few years, I hated it when people would ask me that because deep down I wasn’t doing alright. I was really unhappy with my life, and I was fighting my own internal battles of anxiety, depression, disappointments, failures, etc. I had always tried to be authentic in my dealings with others and didn’t want to tell people I was doing good because it wasn’t true. What was true is that I was literally taking life One… Day…At… A… Time. I was just surviving.

Over the last year, I have realized taking life one day at a time isn’t all that bad. In fact, it has been a life-changer for me. I no longer cynically respond to others when they ask. It is a statement that I am trying my best every day—and my best can vary—to learn from my mistakes, my challenges, my good days, and bad days, in hopes to create the fulfilling life I want to live.

This is the essence of One Day at a Time. As cliché as it is, we really do only have one life, and life can be short. There is so much to do and so much to learn. Why not do it together? Below you will find a short mission, vision, and value statement for ODaaT. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Our Mission

There are billions of people in the world, each with their own unique personalities, challenges, experiences, and circumstances. Each is writing their own story day by day. The One Day at a Time Project believes everyone has a story worth sharing and has the potential to encourage, help, uplift, and inspire others.

We are dedicated to shedding light on individual inspirational stories, difficult experiences and life-changing challenges through writing, video, photography, and audio to help in that process. We strongly believe through sharing vulnerable moments; we can truly connect with others, learn from them, and develop compassion and empathy for our fellow human beings. Nobody has done life before. We are all doing the best we can with the circumstances that we are dealt; so why don’t we all live and learn together—one day at a time.

Our Vision

One Day at a Time aims to become a vast library of unique stories from individuals all over the world. We aim to increase compassion and empathy toward our fellow human beings by sharing their own stories. We desire to help as many people as possible to have the courage to push forward to live the life they want to live. Our success is determined by individual lives positively impacted; even if only one individual person is helped by the work shared here.

Our Values

We believe that individual life is intrinsically valuable and it is in the journey—the collection of life experiences and development of unique character strengths and abilities—you discover yourself.

We believe that everyone has something to teach. One should actively seek to learn from everyone.

We accept and celebrate individual identities and differences.

We seek to be our authentic selves and encourage others to do so.

We believe in treating others with kindness, empathy, and compassion.

We believe authentic human connection thrives when we show vulnerability.

We seek to encourage, uplift, help and inspire others.

We reject toxic perfectionism.

We embrace challenges and mistakes as the catalyst that brings us to success and a better version of ourselves.

We believe that everyone can change, grow, and live a fulfilling life.

Ready to Share Your Story?

That’s it. That’s who we are and what we do; however, we can’t do it alone. We need more stories to reach our goals. We need to hear about your specific experiences, and I know there are others that need to hear it too.

If you—or someone you know—would like to be a part of the project please visit the tab in the upper-right hand menu that says “Tell Your Story” or “Refer a Friend” and submit your info. Again, this is a growing project so I would love to hear from you in the comments. Any thoughts, feelings, suggestions are greatly appreciated! I am so stoked to hear from you and learn about your stories!
